He probably should have entitled this poem "Why I am a Liberal", just to make the political side of its message clear. He's been accused of oversimplification of the message of the philosophical dichotomy between Conservatives and Liberals...but I, for one, think that simple truths are the purest truths.
I have seen the past
I have seen the past,
and there have been moments in it
that were as sweet as I can bear.
But the future, it is there,
still waiting, calling out as a sirene,
telling me there is more,
there is more,
there is more.
And my dreams are moments
yet unfulfilled.
And I am unworthy
if I dwell, alone, in memory.

Explaining the Tags
You will note, gentle reader, that all works under this blog now display "tags" to help classify and assign the works for your review and enjoyment.
These largely fall into 4 categories:
Year of writing, e.g. "1999"
Book published in, e.g. "from an unexpected quarter"
Inspiring muse, e.g. "Aubergine"
Genre, e.g. "erotica"
We are still in the process of cleaning up the tags, so please bear with us. Yes, some muses are classified under more than one tag, some poems appear in more than one book, or not yet in any volume, and some years are...hazy.
