It means "nothing further" or "nothing beyond this point". The "pillars" are the metaphorical Pillars of Hercules, now known as the Straits of Gibraltar, which Ancient Greeks believe marked the edge of the world.

Nothing further
the pillars are behind me
and before me is
a question,
wrested from tested hypotheses
left to answer
unknown wonders,
thunder in the sea,
fire in the sky
and I
I
I am adrift
on a current that would lift me
gift me
with a view of the cracked remains
of Atlas,
split in two
to renew
an unforgiven conflict
between what passes for portal
and what passed
a moment ago.

Explaining the Tags
You will note, gentle reader, that all works under this blog now display "tags" to help classify and assign the works for your review and enjoyment.
These largely fall into 4 categories:
Year of writing, e.g. "1999"
Book published in, e.g. "from an unexpected quarter"
Inspiring muse, e.g. "Aubergine"
Genre, e.g. "erotica"
We are still in the process of cleaning up the tags, so please bear with us. Yes, some muses are classified under more than one tag, some poems appear in more than one book, or not yet in any volume, and some years are...hazy.
