don't be afraid...

fear is within me.
not in the shadows I used to think
were just waiting for me to look away
to snatch me up and swallow me whole
like my heart does, sometimes.
I am my own question mark.
I am my own nay-sayer.
I should no better than to doubt
because I have been here the whole time
and seen what I have survived
and triumphed over with a laugh
and a smile and a roar of victory.
fear is within me.
that I might best control it.
