elegy for Neda

1 observations

Neda
even as your blood runs warm
your life nourishes the prayers
of every woman and man seeking truth
seeking peace and the freedom sworn
in this world and the next by old men
who have lost their way and play God
while God weeps for your pain
Neda
you cried and died for your country
not for the lies of those who think death
ends anything but the opening chords
to a lush opera that they cannot hush
with the truncheons and tear gas that pass
for the facade of an argument already lost
by those who will not serve the people
Neda
the world will lay roses of regret
for having never known you in your life
but you will live on in the hearts of all,
all who dream of hope and freedom, peace
won at the cost of Gandhi, King and martyrs
who aren't looking for a promised prize
but find lies in the eyes of cruel tyrants.

    Explaining the Tags

You will note, gentle reader, that all works under this blog now display "tags" to help classify and assign the works for your review and enjoyment.

These largely fall into 4 categories:

    Year of writing, e.g. "1999"
Book published in, e.g. "from an unexpected quarter"
    Inspiring muse, e.g. "Aubergine"
    Genre, e.g. "erotica"

We are still in the process of cleaning up the tags, so please bear with us. Yes, some muses are classified under more than one tag, some poems appear in more than one book, or not yet in any volume, and some years are...hazy.
