precious mettle, bright as ten thousand emeralds.
the air burns with the premonitions of what comes.
love approaches, beyond the dreams of cold heralds.
it walks with steady tread where others have but crawled,
footfalls alone pounding like a great legions' drums.
precious mettle, bright as ten thousand emeralds.
the unanticipated champion, once walled
and left for dead, I sustained myself, dreams and crumbs.
love approaches, beyond the dreams of cold heralds.
when all doubt was stripped away by scourge and by scalds,
ripped away scars and stars, becoming what becomes.
precious mettle, bright as ten thousand emeralds.
I wait, hesitate, I watched the gate unappalled
for the sign of the lover, the cithara's strums:
love approaches, beyond the dreams of cold heralds.
no fear, no pain, sanctified by a union called
by your lips, your eyes, and the succubus succumbs.
precious mettle, bright as ten thousand emeralds.
love approaches, beyond the dreams of cold heralds.

Explaining the Tags
You will note, gentle reader, that all works under this blog now display "tags" to help classify and assign the works for your review and enjoyment.
These largely fall into 4 categories:
Year of writing, e.g. "1999"
Book published in, e.g. "from an unexpected quarter"
Inspiring muse, e.g. "Aubergine"
Genre, e.g. "erotica"
We are still in the process of cleaning up the tags, so please bear with us. Yes, some muses are classified under more than one tag, some poems appear in more than one book, or not yet in any volume, and some years are...hazy.
