The poet's friend Nicole (just a friend, really) was one of the millions impacted by Hurricane Katrina and is one of the many who chose to return to the New Orleans area to rebuild. She went through some dark days, and to build her spirits her wrote her this tribute last year, comparing her to a willow tree, bending in the fury of nature, only to rebound...
Beautiful Willow
a beautiful willow bends in the rain
as the wind bears her down in response to her pain,
her limbs feel the pull of the long winter's wrath
that has stolen her sun, her blossoms, her laugh.
her leaves are now fallen, she groans in the night
and the grey morning mists persist to block light.
but I know she'll endure, and remember her pride
when her leaves readorn her, the Springtime's sweet bride.

Explaining the Tags
You will note, gentle reader, that all works under this blog now display "tags" to help classify and assign the works for your review and enjoyment.
These largely fall into 4 categories:
Year of writing, e.g. "1999"
Book published in, e.g. "from an unexpected quarter"
Inspiring muse, e.g. "Aubergine"
Genre, e.g. "erotica"
We are still in the process of cleaning up the tags, so please bear with us. Yes, some muses are classified under more than one tag, some poems appear in more than one book, or not yet in any volume, and some years are...hazy.
