My notes on this piece from the archives show it to be one from that era when he was hoping against hope that his second wife was not hiding from him the things it turned out she was hiding from him (he as and is a hopeless and hopeful romantic) and although the marriage limped on for a few more years, it never fully recovered from the truth.
faithless
and so, my friend, we find the stone
that rests within the flesh of time.
an anchor, buried in the bone,
that makes atonement for the crime
of being mortal, in this place.
an act of faith in faithless veils
surrendered to the gods of hope...
a dream of peace 'neath warship sails
unfurled to strain the teth'ring rope
that holds this journey, holds this race.
and so we find a truthful word
communicates an alien kiss
that shares with it a prayer unheard
in ancient siege engines that miss
the mark in mark'd arrogance.
so, be my heart and guard my faith
I promise to you all candor,
given without reserve or fear
that you would fall to sinister
ways of those who know not the dance.

Explaining the Tags
You will note, gentle reader, that all works under this blog now display "tags" to help classify and assign the works for your review and enjoyment.
These largely fall into 4 categories:
Year of writing, e.g. "1999"
Book published in, e.g. "from an unexpected quarter"
Inspiring muse, e.g. "Aubergine"
Genre, e.g. "erotica"
We are still in the process of cleaning up the tags, so please bear with us. Yes, some muses are classified under more than one tag, some poems appear in more than one book, or not yet in any volume, and some years are...hazy.
