even as a little girl

2 observations

even as a little girl

you were always there.
weren't you?
even as a little girl
dreaming of daisies
chasing birds
and watching people walking by as they held hands,
whispering words that weren't words in each other's ears.

you were a romantique.
weren't you?
even as a little girl
wanting so hard to be loved
that you talked yourself into it
and watched sandcastle hearts and hands melt with the tides.
and you cried. oh, how you cried those earnest tears.

you are all grown up now.
aren't you?
acknowledging your life
as a gift you can now hold
in hands that have been denied so long
by others who wanted to put you on a shelf
apart from yourself, and what you wanted to be, all these years.

I'm crying right now. Because I'm happy. Because you understand. And I'm not alone anymore.

You aren't. Someone needs to give you the freedom to be yourself and be willing to, with eyes tightly closed, say they love you.

Be yourself. That's the woman I fell in love with. The rest is just window dressing people make up to hide their hearts.

    Explaining the Tags

You will note, gentle reader, that all works under this blog now display "tags" to help classify and assign the works for your review and enjoyment.

These largely fall into 4 categories:

    Year of writing, e.g. "1999"
Book published in, e.g. "from an unexpected quarter"
    Inspiring muse, e.g. "Aubergine"
    Genre, e.g. "erotica"

We are still in the process of cleaning up the tags, so please bear with us. Yes, some muses are classified under more than one tag, some poems appear in more than one book, or not yet in any volume, and some years are...hazy.
