For Candy, and all the illusions and delusions we have dispelled with more than a word, for faith without deeds is not faith, it is hollow songs given on the way out the door until there is no longer need for pretense.
not a word
love is not a word
to be seized upon
like an unruly cat
and scolded in futility
for it does not know
what it is in trouble for
love is not a word
to be dropped from a height
just to see how large a hole
it leaves in the sidewalk
when it hits next to a stranger
and splashes them sharply
love is not a word
but a purpose, an essence,
the blood of the veins of God,
handed out in tiny cups we hold
in hands that we forgot to wash
because we arrived late to the sacrament

Explaining the Tags
You will note, gentle reader, that all works under this blog now display "tags" to help classify and assign the works for your review and enjoyment.
These largely fall into 4 categories:
Year of writing, e.g. "1999"
Book published in, e.g. "from an unexpected quarter"
Inspiring muse, e.g. "Aubergine"
Genre, e.g. "erotica"
We are still in the process of cleaning up the tags, so please bear with us. Yes, some muses are classified under more than one tag, some poems appear in more than one book, or not yet in any volume, and some years are...hazy.
